Let the games begin

Someone advised me to approach the preparation for this work event the same way I train for endurance sports.

Eat well. Sleep. Pace myself. Keep a sense of humor.

Triathlon is different in that the motivation is so internal. An ongoing chat with yourself about doing the right things at the right time for you body and mind.

Preparing for this event is just about the polar opposite. I interact with people all day long. Responding to emails at a sprint pace and juggling eight concurrent conversations.

And now we begin. Attendees start arriving at 1pm today and while the lead up to the event has been hard the next two and half days are the real marathon.

What I’ve missed most these last few weeks is time with family and friends. The time to swim/bike/run. The time to play with Now Voyager.

I can see the finish line though. And that always helps me endure.

  1. I know what you mean! Sometimes preparing for putting on an event seems more challenging than doing an endurance event! Hang in there!
