Valentine Triathlon

Bert and I spent Valentine’s weekend up in Sonoma County wine country. At first we were just planning to enjoy the change of scenery. Then we decided to bring the bikes and hope for good weather. That was the beginning of our *very informal* Valentine weekend triathlon.

Saturday we did a lovely – if rather short – ride through the foothills of Sonoma County. If you know the area our ride basically took us around Annadel State Park.

There was some climbing – which was a nice reminder of just how out of cycling shape I am these days. But always encouraging to feel how the muscles respond and seem to crave more!

We planned to treat ourselves to a nice dinner at the Fig Cafe in Glenn Ellen Saturday night. After getting all prettified we drove into town only to discover that a *private party* had taken over. Drat.

We’re nothing if not flexible and creative so we popped over to the Glenn Ellen gourmet market and ordered up a couple of super tasty sandwiches and loaded up on fun stuff from the salad bar. Then back to the house to watch some amazing Olympic athletes do their amazing things.

The next morning we were up early for a walk through the fog in Annadel. Crisp cold air. Mystical feeling of wandering through the woods in a dream.

After refueling at the salad bar at yet another gourmet market – this one in Santa Rosa – we hit the pool to soak up the sun which had broken through the fog.

So you see…an unintentional yet totally enjoyable Valentine’s triathlon with my very own valentine!

  1. Sounds like a GREAT Valentines! I’m wishing we had some of your gourmet markets down here 🙂

  2. Wow! I don’t think I even got to sleep in that day! You are hard core.

  3. There is one place we go for treats for dinner, Cardiff Market, I think Charisa forgot that one but it’s so cool and we often bring tasty things home for a fun dinner. Sounds like you had a great time bike riding too!
